Exhibition "Life For Chess" opens in Baku

The exhibition “Life For Chess” opens at Russian Information and Cultural Center in Baku, Trend Life reported.

The event is organized ahead of the 42nd World Chess Olympiad in Baku.

With 2,000 chess masters from 180 counties, FIDE’s biennial chess tournament, will gather teams from all over the world to compete for the best title.

The opening ceremony of the Olympiad will be held in the National Gymnastics Arena, while charming Crystal Hall, once hosting Eurovision Song Contest in 2012, will host the games.

The wonderful exhibition features personal photographs, books, awards and souvenirs that belong to chess veteran Konstantin Stepanovich Kononenko.

"The unique Baku   may claim to   the title of world chess capital... And the credit for this belongs to such people as Konstantin Stepanovich Kononenko. This is an amazing man. In fact, he has dedicated his life to chess and the science of chess. Today we have the chance see his life”, said Valentin Denisov, the head of “Rossotrudnichestvo” representation office in Azerbaijan.

Alexander Kosolapov, the head of children’s creativity center and famous chess player, spoke about the life of chess veteran and Azerbaijan’s chess history.

The event was attended by Kononenko`s family, representatives of the sports and public organizations, as well as Russian compatriots in Azerbaijan.

The exhibition will last till September 20.

The Russian Information and Cultural Center's activities are aimed at informing the Azerbaijani public about Russia's achievements in various fields, its spiritual heritage, its rich scientific and cultural potential, promoting bilateral cultural, educational, scientific and technical programs, and business connections, supporting Russian language teaching, and interacting with non-governmental organizations and friendship societies.
